I first heard about the Universities at Shady Grove (USG) when I was at Montgomery College (MC). As I was passing through my counselor’s office, I saw a poster that mentioned the benefits of transferring to a program offered at USG. I didn’t pay much attention to it at the time. A few semesters later, I discovered my passion for business and cybersecurity. I wanted to continue my education so I started researching schools and found the University of Maryland University College (UMUC). I knew that I needed to stay local so I could maintain my full-time job in order to pay for school. As luck would have it, I passed through my counselor’s office and saw that USG poster once again.

I looked into USG and saw that UMUC offers several programs on that campus. I chose UMUC at USG primarily because I am able to maintain my full-time job and I won’t have to worry about commuting. I knew it would be a challenge working while going to school, but I also know that I have a solid work ethic and high standard set for myself. I applied to UMUC's Business Administration program and selected to take my classes on the Shady Grove campus.

Because I am part of the Achieving Collegiate Excellence and Success (ACES) program, I was able to secure additional scholarships at USG and I am happy to say I will be graduating debt-free!

My career goal is to have an executive position in the private sector and/or in the government to receive full exposure to both sides of the world. I also would like to pursue a Master’s degree in the process so I have as much knowledge as possible to get ahead in life. Ultimately, I would like to become a successful entrepreneur and help save all the small businesses that drive the American economy.
