I am originally from Ghana where I had earned an Associate Degree in Building Construction Technology. When I relocated to the United States I really wanted to continue my education, but I couldn’t find a school that offered a Construction Management program. So I decided to finish my pre-requisites at Prince George’s Community College.

I was still searching for a four-year university to transfer to when I found out about the Universities at Shady Grove (USG). I had been talking to a friend about the transfer process and she told me about an upcoming open house at the Universities at Shady Grove.

I decided to check it out, and I am so happy I did. I was able to connect with Dr. Bijan Shapoorian, the Construction Management Technology Program Director at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore at USG.  I was delighted that I had finally found a university with a Construction Management Technology program so close to home.  Not only was it convenient, but it offered a flexible schedule, holding classes in the evening so students can continue to work.

I am really enjoying my time as a student at USG. I am an active member of the ABC of Metro Washington Student Chapter. I have also participated in several internships. These internships are through partnerships with local construction companies, the same ones that will be looking to hire soon-to-be graduates like myself. The internships have allowed me to get a foot in the door, and a step closer to achieving my career goal.
