Applying for Admissions
Students applying for admission to UMCP's Communication program at the Universities at Shady Grove (USG) must complete the UMCP/USG admission application (currently available only in hardcopy form). Applications are available from USG's Office of Student Services, located in the lobby of 9630 Gudelsky Dr., Rockville, MD 20850, or from Caroline Harper, Undergraduate Communication Coordinator, at 301-738-6002 or shadyme@umd.edu. In conjunction with submitting an application, applicants are encouraged to complete a prospective advising session.
Application Deadlines
Admissions occur on a rolling basis. Students who wish to be considered for entry in the Fall Semester should submit an application by July 1 for priority consideration. After July 1, qualified applicants are admitted on a space-available basis. Students who wish to be considered for entry in the Spring Semester should submit an application by December 1.
Requirements for Admission
Communication is a Limited Enrollment Program in which applicants should have an overall GPA of 2.7 of better, and a grade of "C" or better in each of the three courses specifically required by the major (COMM250, COMM 107, Statistics, or their equivalents). Applicants should also attain junior standing (56 or more transferable college credits) by the time of enrollment. Admissions Review Process
Once an application is complete, the Coordinator will review the application and notify the applicant of his or her admission status. Decisions are made on a rolling-basis. Applicants typically receive written notification of their admission decision 1-2 months after submitting a complete application.
