M.P.S. in Industrial-Organizational Psychology
UMBC's Master's in Professional Studies (M.P.S.): Industrial
/Organizational Psychology explores and integrates important
topics such as personnel and selection, organizational behavioral
management, human factors and culminates with a professional
capstone experience. This program enables students to develop
a professional portfolio while building strong
relationships with faculty practitioners and industry professionals.
Based in Rockville, Maryland, at the Universities at Shady Grove,
the program offers evening, weekend, and select online courses
for busy professionals.
Understanding the importance of communication, presentation and
critical thinking skills, UMBC's M.P.S.: Industrial/Organizational
Psychology covers the essential techniques and skills necessary
for success in this field. Using best practices and industry/association
partnerships, UMBC provides the latest tools and techniques that
will help enable students to become part of a dynamic organization
either through applied work experiences or internship opportunities.
Program Requirements
The
Master in Professional Studies: Industrial/Organizational Psychology
requires a total of 30-credit hours. Students must complete 6
core courses (totaling 18 credits) including a field practicum
which will serve as their professional capstone experience, and
4 specialty courses (totaling 12 credits).
Students in the B.A. Psychology program may consider our B.A./M.P.S.
option where nine of their undergraduate credits may be applied
toward the M.P.S.

Admission Requirements
In general, minimum requirements for the I/O Psychology program
are set at a 3.0 GPA from an accredited undergraduate program.
The Graduate Record Exam (GRE) will not be
required for admission to the I/O program. Students seeking admission
from disciplines other than psychology may be required to take
prerequisites, such as the introductory psychology course and/or
a research methods/statistics course, prior to enrollment in
the program.
Students will need to adhere to the application procedures set
by UMBC's Graduate School. For full degree seeking
students, this means: an application, official transcripts, letters
of recommendation, a personal statement, and the graduate application
