M.A.T. in Special Education
Towson University has a distinguished history in the preparation of classroom teachers and education specialists. The Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.), offered through Towson University, is a program for those without formal training in the field of education who wish to enter the teaching profession. It is well suited to recent graduates with bachelor?s degrees and to those seeking to change careers.
A graduate of this program will meet state teacher certification requirements within the Special Education Track in Early Childhood, Elementary, or Secondary Education. The program will be taught by faculty from Towson University and qualified instructors from local colleges, universities or school systems. This program is NCATE accredited and approved by the Maryland State Department of Education.
A 3.0 GPA is required for full admission. A GPA between 2.75 and 2.99 may qualify the applicant for conditional admission. Passing scores (as determined by MSDE) on the PRAXIS I Exam (reading, writing, and mathematics) must be submitted for acceptance to the program.
This program is offered by Towson University at the Universities at Shady Grove. Accepted individuals will be eligible for a reduced tuition rate.
