The University of Maryland Center for Health and Homeland Security (CHHS) works side-by-side with the nation’s top emergency responders in the public and private sector to develop plans, policies, and strategies that ensure the safety of citizens in the event of natural or man-made catastrophes.

Our team of more than 50 professionals, under Founder and Director Michael Greenberger, have backgrounds in law, emergency management, public health, and homeland security.

To fulfill our mission, CHHS provides products and services in general emergency preparedness planning, continuity of operations planning and training, preparation of special needs populations during emergencies, mass evacuation and sheltering planning, emergency communication systems, hospital coordination, table top and field emergency response exercises, the provision of adequate energy supplies during emergencies, and grant writing assistance for governmental institutions seeking funding for emergency planning efforts. As an academic consulting agency, clients seek out our expertise from all across the U.S., as well as internationally. We also strive to provide insightful contributions to the field through blogs/articles as well as for media outlets, legislative bodies and the public.

Although headquartered at the University of Maryland, Baltimore since 2002, in 2010 the Center opened an office at the Universities at Shady Grove to better serve our Washington DC area clients. Our academic classes are also presented on the Shady Grove campus from time to time.
