USG Establishes a Relief Fund to Aid Hurricane Katrina Victims
ROCKVILLE, MD - Students, faculty, and staff at the Universities at Shady Grove are taking part in a campaign to aid victims of Hurricane Katrina through the American Red Cross. The campaign has been extended through Friday, September 23. Individuals may drop off checks in any amount, payable to "American Red Cross for 2005 Hurricane Season Relief," at the Student Services Desk in Building II. Faculty members are announcing the campaign in all classes, and the USG Student Association and USG Office of Student Services are also playing an active role in spreading the word.
"We've all witnessed the plight and suffering of Hurricane Katrina's victims on the national news," says John Kapp, program director, University of Maryland, College Park Undergraduate Biological Science Program at USG. "It is critical that we take action to provide assistance - it is needed now and for months to come."
"It is rewarding to see our community come together so rapidly to help our fellow Americans in need," adds Stewart Edelstein, executive director at USG. "We all can play a part, large or small, in making a difference."
