Learn a Bunch at Brunch: MC Students Learn About Communication Major
Free muffins and bagels were the popular draw as over 100 Montgomery College students attended the "Learn a Bunch at Brunch" on Wednesday, November 29th, on the MC Rockville campus. The event was sponsored by the Undergraduate Communication Association at the Universities at Shady Grove. Students hosting this event are currently enrolled in the Public Relations Event Planning course which focuses on the dynamics of corporate relations, networking, interpersonal communication, public speaking, strategic planning, and promotions. The focus of the event was to introduce MC students to the University of Maryland B.A. in Communication Program offered at Shady Grove. In addition to communication students, the director of undergraduate studies, program coordinator and a new faculty member who specializes in public relations each wore buttons which encouraged MC students to "Ask me about COMM at USG."
Many MC students had not heard about the Communication major, but were interested in learning more. This was the first attempt that former MC students made to introduce current MC students to the communication major.
Natasha Desjardins, a General Studies major said, "I knew about the Shady Grove Campus, but I didn't know about Communication. It's a versatile major-you can do a lot with it. Shady Grove's small campus and class size combined with this Communication major are definitely appealing to me. I will seriously consider it."
Caroline Harper coordinates the B.A. in Communication Program and can be reached by phone at 301-738-6002 or by email at: shadyme@umd.edu.
