With more than 185 students representing two universities, Social Work students at USG make up one ambitious student body – ready to impact the world in countless ways.

The University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) and the University of Maryland School of Social Work each offer their nationally acclaimed and accredited degree programs in the field of Social Work at the Universities at Shady Grove, preparing undergraduate and graduate students for a range of career opportunities in the local Health and Human Services industry.

UMBC's Bachelor of Arts (B.A) degree in Social Work program prepares students for social work practice with individuals, families, groups and communities. Students pursuing the Master of Social Work (MSW) credential in the University of Maryland School of Social Work will be prepared to enter roles as clinicians, community advocates, and administrators who are leaders in services to children, families, and the elderly in communities, health care, and public and private organizations.

While the two programs operate separately at USG, they are affiliated to enhance student learning. Faculty and staff from each program collaborate often and present vibrant curriculums and exceptional opportunities for field work and internships at both levels of study. In addition, students completing the social work major at UMBC with an overall GPA of 3.0 or better in their final 60 credits may be eligible for consideration for advanced standing in the master's degree program in the School of Social Work.
