The Montgomery County Immigrant Archive is a project currently under development by the Priddy Library that will map the memory of the immigrant population in Montgomery County, Maryland and contribute toward preserving its heritage. The project will achieve this goal by recording oral testimonies and histories as told by immigrants to USG students, and by collecting tangible material (documents, photos, letters, immigrant local newspapers, etc) for preservation and digitization.
The project will benefit the immigrant communities as they obtain insights into their own cultures and cultural transformations in a new setting. It will also benefit USG by providing an opportunity to interact with communities that are the source of many of students.
The Library will partner with Montgomery County Public Schools, Montgomery County Public Library, Montgomery County Historical Society, Montgomery County Executive's Office of Community Partnerships, and if possible with UMD and the National Institutes of Health to develop the project.
