Dr. Jerry Weast
Superintendent of Schools Montgomery County Public Schools
Superintendent of the Montgomery County Public Schools, has been on the BOA since its inception in 2000. He serves on the Nominating Committee. He explains that USG has grown into the institution it is today because of the unique partnership of USM schools. As the superintendent of the largest and most diverse school system in Maryland, he notes USG gives students the ability to continue their education "in their own backyard.' He adds that SG Building III demonstrates that USG will continue to grow with new programs to meet student and business demands.
Weast possesses more than 30 years of experience as a school superintendent. He has overseen school systems in Kansas, Montana, North Dakota and North Carolina before becoming superintendent in Montgomery County in 1999. During his tenure in Montgomery County, he earned distinctions as the Superintendent of the Year for Maryland in 2003 and as one of four finalists for National Superintendent of the Year in 2004. He is one of the few school superintendents to have earned this distinction in two different states, previously receiving the award in North Carolina. In addition to being a member of the BOA and other civic and educational organizations, he is a Trustee for the Committee for Economic Development, a Founding Member of the Montgomery County Roundtable for Education, and a member of the Board of the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce. |
