OVERVIEW

The Universities at Shady Grove Student Council was established in 2002 to serve as an advocate for the USG student body. The Student Council strives to provide a forum for students to voice their concerns and to facilitate the undertaking of improvements and changes in the operations of the Universities at Shady Grove with respect to the needs of the student population. Members meet on a regular basis and participate in a variety of activities such as student forums, community service projects, and student life activities that serve to enhance the students' academic experience at USG.

Goals

1. Collect, evaluate, and address student concerns and suggestions relating to their experience at USG.
2. Raise awareness and increase knowledge among the students, faculty, and the surrounding community about the services offered by the Student Council.
3. Foster the partnership, collaboration, and communication among the USG community by pursuing activities which recognize students, faculty, staff, and other constituencies.

MEMBERSHIP

In accordance to the USG Student Council Constitution, the Student Council body will be comprised of the Executive Board: the President, Vice President, Treasurer, Chair of Marketing, and the Chair of Events and Initiatives. In addition, the Student Council administration will also include Institutional Representatives from the different universities hosted at USG.

During Summer 2012, the Student Council restructured its organization, and new memberships are now available. These positions include seats in the Committee of Marketing, Committee of Events & Initiatives, Secondary Institutional Representatives, and President's Advisory Committee. These new seats ensure that the Student Council will have a broad representation of students from the various academic disciplines.

Get Involved in Student Council

All others who are interested in participating in Student Council should contact the Student Council President, Shahina Khan, at studentcouncil.usg@gmail.com for more information on current opportunities. Students may also contact the Student Council Advisor, Raimonda Nuredini, via email at rnuredin@umd.edu. Raimonda's office is located in the Office of Student Services in SG-III, 1106.
