The Universities at Shady Grove Student Council was established in 2002 to serve as an advocate for the USG student body. USG Student Council strives to provide a forum for students to voice their concerns and to facilitate the undertaking of improvements and changes in the operations of the Universities at Shady Grove with respect to the needs of student population. Members meet on a regular basis and participate in a variety of activities that serve to better USG including student forums, community service projects, student life activities and more.
Mission
The mission of the Student Council is to serve as a student advocacy and advisory group which acts as a liaison between the students and administration of USG to communicate on behalf of the student population. The group also serves to identify and engage in activities which enhance the student experience and are supportive of the USG community at large.
Goals
- Collect, evaluate, and address student complaints and concerns and suggestions relating to their experience at USG.
- Increase knowledge among the students, faculty, and the surrounding community about the services of Student Council.
- Generate increased interaction between students from different programs by encouraging student organizations to collaborate with one another to create unique social and recreational activities at USG.
- To enhance the partnership, collaboration, communication and linkages among the USG community including pursuit of activities which recognize students, faculty, staff, alumni area businesses and other constituencies.
MEMBERSHIP
In accordance to the USG Student Council Constitution, Student Council body will be comprised with the members that represent all the institutions at USG. To assure equal representation, each institution will have one member in the Student Council body that has the voting rights. Student Council body will be supported by the committees for different areas: marketing, events and initiatives, and finance. To find out more, please contact SC at studentcouncil.usg@gmail.com .
