The USG Office of Information Technology's (OIT), Networking and Telecommunications (NTS) group are happy to announce we have successfully converted our voice services to VoIP. Our new voice system vendor is Avaya.
What is VoIP?
Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) refers to the technology that transmits voice communications over a network infrastructure using IP standards. USG's VoIP telephony solution includes Avaya hardware and software products including IP phones (both wired and wireless), voice messaging systems, speech access, web access, mobility resources, call-processing agents, and other enhanced applications.
New Features & Services
VoIP offers a host of new features and services. They are as follows:
- Checking your voice mail online
- Caller ID
- Call Forwarding
- Personal Contact Directory
- Call Logs
- Call Park - allows a user to put a caller on hold and pick up from another phone
- Voice mail notifications to e-mail

What is Voicemail Web Access?
USG's Voicemail Web Access services is now available allowing USG faculty and staff to access their voicemail boxes from anywhere there is a PC and Internet connection. You can securely access and manage your voicemail messages from the office, home, hotels, and/or wireless hotspots.
What services are available to me through USG's Voicemail Web Access?
If you have a dedicated office phone and an assigned voicemail box at USG, you automatically have access to the voicemail web access server. The most commonly used features of this service are:
- Retrieve and listen to new and/or saved messages
- Delete messages
- Forward messages
- Manage voicemail box options
