Please join us for a variety of networking opportunities and events during Faculty Week at the Universities at Shady Grove (USG)

Attend one or more of our events during Faculty Week and be eligible to be entered in to a drawing for an Amazon Kindle. Faculty who has taught for one of USG’s nine partner institutions last year, who is currently teaching here at USG, and/or will be teaching next spring is eligible.

Faculty Reception, Tuesday, November 8, 4:30-6 PM

Food & Wine Social
This signature event for Faculty Week will include remarks and updates by Dr. Stewart Edelstein, Executive Director of USG, on new developments at USG and faculty contributions and achievements over the past year.

Networking Opportunities, Monday-Thursday, 8 AM-6 PM

Executive Dining Rom, Green Grove Café, building III

Throughout faculty week, the executive dining room is reserved for faculty to network with each other, enjoy a break between classes, and pick up information about faculty services and other faculty research. Coffee/tea and lemonade plus light refreshments will be provided throughout the day.

Faculty Brownbag Series, Monday-Thursday, 12-1 PM

Executive Dining Rom, Green Grove Café, building III

Based on the feedback from the last faculty survey at USG, we are offering a series of four brown bag lunches during faculty week. Bring your own lunch and meet with faculty from other institutions to exchange cutting edge research and best practices in the classroom. Beverages (coffee/tea) and snacks will be provided.

Writing within the Disciplines: Academic Writing, 2nd Language Learners, and Plagiarism

  • Best practices to set up your students for success in academic writing within your disciplines
  • Strategies to support 2nd language learners
  • Approaches and resources to detect and address plagiarism

Tuesday, November 8

Committee on Collaboration, Interprofessional and Interdisciplinary Education Strategies (CIPES)

  • Interprofessional and interdisciplinary collaborations through educational coursework and laboratories, community outreach, and scholarship innovations.
  • Faculty development training in interprofessional and interdisciplinary education
  • Research on interprofessional and interdisciplinary education initiatives at USG

Wednesday, November 9

Screens, Apps, and other Gadgets: Use of Technology in the Classroom

  • Use of online environments to support students learning
  • Use of technology such as “clickers” to increase classroom participation and instructor effectiveness
  • Pedagogical benefits of a technologically integrated classroom setting

Thursday, November 10

Making Sense out of Chaos: Classroom & Behavior Management           

Please join previous recipients of USG’s Board of Advisors Kendall Excellence in Teaching Award and other faculty recognized for their teaching in a discussion on classroom and behavior management. You will also hear from members of the Behavioral Assessment Team (BAT) at USG about managing challenging classroom situations.
