Towson University

Towson University awards a limited number of academic scholarships each year to transfer students. Students who wish to be considered for these scholarship opportunities are encouraged to submit required forms no later than December 1.

Molly Caitlin Counihan Endowed Scholarship
(Towson Students Only)

This endowed scholarship is awarded to a student entering the Towson University dual certification program in Elementary and Special Education at the Universities at Shady Grove. To qualify, student candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be transferring from Montgomery College to the USG/Towson Education program
  • Hold a 2.75 GPA or higher
  • Incoming Junior or Senior

Award: The minimum award is $800 annually.

University of Baltimore

Undergraduate Scholarships for Full-Time Students

All new incoming undergraduates will be automatically considered for merit- and need-based awards. A separate application is not required. Scholarship criteria can be found at www.ubalt.edu/admissions/scholarships/tranfer_program.html. To be considered for these scholarships, students must:

  • Apply for and be admitted to a degree seeking program and submit all required credentials (including transcripts from ALL previously attended colleges and universities) prior to the deadline dates of Jan. 1 for the spring semester and Aug. 1 for the fall semester
  • Register and maintain full-time continuous enrollment (a minimum of 12 credits per semester*)
  • Submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.FAFSA.ed.gov by the above deadline dates.

*Students in weekend programs are considered full-time at 9 credits per semester.

Undergraduate Scholarships for Part-Time Students

Scholarships are available for part-time students who have a cross-cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. Students must be continuously enrolled part time (6-11 credits) per semester and maintain a 3.25 UB GPA. This scholarship is good for eight semesters. Students must apply for this scholarship and submit the application to the Office of Financial Aid; consideration is not automatic.

University Scholarship for Students with Disabilities

Apply directly to the Office of Disability Support Services - AC 139. Minimum requirements: Maryland resident enrolled as either full- or part-time degree seeking student with GPA of at least 2.5. Requires verification of disability, statement of financial need (including FAFSA and UB institutional financial aid application) & 500 word essay on selected topic. Award covers two years of full-time or four years of part-time study at the undergraduate in-state tuition rate.

University of Maryland, Baltimore County

Academic Achievement Award for Transfers (AAAT)


This scholarship is awarded to transfer students on the basis of academic
accomplishment. 

To qualify, student candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Completed 35 or more credits at the time of application
  • Submit an essay with their application for admission
  • Be either a full-time or part-time student

Award details are as follows:

  • Up to $2500 for each of two academic years

Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to transfer students on the basis of academic accomplishment and membership in the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.

To qualify, student candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Submit proof of PTK membership
  • Submit an essay with their application for admission
  • Be either a full-time or part-time student

Award details are as follows:

  • Range from $2000 to $2500 per year for 2 academic years

University of Maryland, College Park

Transfer Academic Excellence Scholarship

This scholarship fund offers full tuition for four consecutive semesters to
four outstanding transfer students.  The scholarship committee will review all applications and select ten finalists for interviews.

To qualify, student candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a new applicant for Fall semester or currently enrolled in Spring semester in any of the University of Maryland, College Park programs at Shady Grove
  • Be a resident of Maryland for tuition purposes (US Citizen or Permanent Resident)
  • Overall cumulative GPA of at least 3.5 for all college work attempted
  • Be enrolled as a full-time student (12 credits per semester)
  • Completion for 56 credits or an Associates degree from a Maryland community college

Award details are as follows:

  • Full tuition for four consecutive semesters

University of Maryland Eastern Shore

Marriott Scholarship
(Hotel and Restaurant Management Students Only)

Due to generous funding from the Marriott Foundation, UMES is able to offer scholarships to students who are Hospitality and Restaurant Management majors.

To qualify, student candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a US citizen or Permanent Resident of the US
  • Show Financial Need
  • A transfer GPA of 2.5 and
  • Complete the Application Form and Personal Statement. (Available from the UMES HRM Program Director)

Award: Up to $2000 annually; as long as the student maintains a 2.5 or above GPA.

University of Maryland University College

UMUC Universities at Shady Grove Excellence in Technology Fund

This fund has been established to provide scholarships, including student tuition and technology costs, for residents of Montgomery County, Maryland, who are taking classes through University of Maryland University College at the Universities at Shady Grove.

To qualify, student candidates must meet the following criteria:

Completion of at least 6 undergraduate or graduate credits at UMUC Minimum GPA of 3.0 at UMUC Resident of Montgomery County taking courses on-site or online Must be enrolled for a minimum of 3 credits at Shady Grove

Application Deadline:�� July 1 for fall session, November 1 for spring session

Award details are as follows:

$1,200 per year ($600 per session)

UMUC Shady Grove Scholarship

This scholarship is availabe to new UMUC undergradauate students who will take at least half of their courses at the Shady Grove location each session.

To qualify, student candidates must meet the following criteria:

Residence in the state of Maryland or eligible noncitizen Associate's degree earned from a Maryland Community College Minimum GPA of 3.0 from transfer institution Completed Shady Grove scholarship application

Application Deadline: August 1 for fall session, December 1 for spring session

Award details are as follows:

Community College Scholarship Program

University of Maryland University College (UMUC) offers this transfer scholarship to outstanding graduates of participating Maryland community colleges.  Recipients may be awarded $3300/year for full-time study or $1650 for part-time study.

To qualify, student candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Minimum 3.0 GPA on all college coursework attempted
  • An associate’s degree earned in the previous year
  • Maryland resident classification for tuition purposes
  • Submission of FAFSA and UMUC financial aid data form

Application deadline: Priority Deadline: June 1, but will accept applications after that as long as funds remain available.
