Private Awards

All awards listed below are open to the undergraduate higher educational community at large; unless otherwise specified by the criteria.

Adventist Care Endowed Scholarship

The criteria for this scholarship have not yet been finalized as this is a newly forming scholarship. The scholarship will be endowed but will include a non-endowed scholarship fund in the first few years aimed at awarding students in the short-term.

Chevy Chase Bank Scholarship (UMCP RHS Students Only)

This endowment given to the University of Maryland provides scholarships for business students who transfer from Montgomery College. A portion of the fund was set aside to fund UM Robert H. Smith School of Business students who are completing their coursework at USG. To qualify, student candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Demonstrate financial need and good academic standing
  • Recipients must be taking classes and making satisfactory progress toward the completion of a bachelor���s degree with UM's Robert H. Smith School of Business at either USG or in College Park.
  • Be a full-time student

Award: The award is $2,000 annually.

Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO)

P.E.O. is an international philanthropic educational and charitable organization which promotes education for women through grants and loans. This organization owns and operates Cottey College, a two year women's college in Nevada, Missouri, and provides several programs through which students may obtain loan and/or scholarship awards. The two educational projects that students at USG may qualify for are listed below:

Program for Continuing Education (grant)


PCE was established to provide need-based grants to women in the U.S. and Canada who are returning to school after a lapse in their education due to employment or family needs.

To qualify, student candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a U.S. or Canadian citizen
  • Be within 24 consecutive months of completing the educational goal
  • Have had a minimum of 24 consecutive months as a non-student sometime in their adult lives

Award: The maximum one time grant is $2,000. Lesser amounts may be awarded according to individual needs and available funds.

P.E.O. Educational Loan Fund (ELF) (loan)

ELF was established to support qualified women who have financial need to pursue their college education.

To qualify, student candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a U.S. or Canadian citizen or legal permanent resident
  • Be within two years but not less than four months of completing course of study

Award: Maximum amount of loan is $9,000 and may not exceed the amount recommended by sponsoring chapter. Loan amounts are subject to availability of funds

Suburban Maryland Business & Professional Women Foundation

These scholarship funds are made available through the local Montgomery
County chapter of a national organization know as Business and Professional Women, Inc. This nonprofit, charitable organization provides
3 scholarships for undergraduate female students with demonstrated
financial need who require additional education or training in order
to achieve independence.

Suburban Maryland Business & Professional Women Foundation Scholarship

This scholarship fund is available to undergraduate, female students in all fields of study.

To qualify, student candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a female, age 21 years or older
  • Be a U.S. Citizen
  • Be a resident of Montgomery County
  • Have demonstrated significant financial need
  • Submit a definite plan to use desired education or training to upgrade skills for career
    advancement, to train for new career field, or to enter or re-enter the job market.
  • NOTE: Additional scholarship-specific criteria may be required as listed on the application.

Award details are as follows:

  • Up to $1000 annually
  • Renewable for up to two year

Kitty Strickland Shore Business, Science & Technology Scholarship

This scholarship fund is made available through a local Montgomery County Technology firm entitled Left Brain, Right Brain, Inc. This
scholarship is made available for undergraduate female students enrolled
in a business, science or technology related major.

To qualify, student candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Enrolled in a Business, Science or Technology program
  • A female, age 21 years or older
  • U.S. Citizen
  • Resident of Montgomery County
  • Demonstrate critical financial need
  • Submit a definite plan to use desired education or training to upgrade skills for career advancement, to train for new career field, or to enter or re-enter the job market.
  • NOTE: Additional scholarship-specific criteria may be required as listed on the application.

Award details are as follows:

  • Up to $1000 annually
  • Renewable for up to two years

Lakeforest Shopping Center Scholarship

Eligibility Requirements

  • The applicant must be a woman, twenty-one years or older.
  • The applicant must be a resident of Montgomery County.
  • The applicant must demonstrate critical financial need.
  • The applicant must submit a well-defined plan to use the desired education to develop or upgrade skills in Business or Business related fields.
  • The applicant must be a United States citizen.
  • The applicant must carry a minimum of six credit hours per semester.

University System of Maryland Regents Scholar Program


The Regents Scholars Program is the most prestigious scholarship
awarded by the University System of Maryland (USM). Regents Scholars
are selected on the basis of demonstrated academic ability as well as
strong motivation, exceptional character and a record of extracurricular accomplishments.

To qualify, student candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a Maryland community college transfer student (received the Associate of Arts degree)
  • Have demonstrated financial need (as determined by the FAFSA)
  • Have completed a minimum of 56 credits
  • Hold a 4.0 GPA
  • Be enrolled in a full-time, daytime bachelor’s degree at USG

Award details are as follows:

  • Covers the entire cost of in-state tuition and mandatory fees, in addition to a stipend to defray other academic expenses for four semesters
  • Renewable each year if the student continues as a full-time student and maintains a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA

To apply, students must:

  • Obtain a Regents Scholarship application from either the community college advising center or the USM Office of
    Academic Affairs
  • Submit a completed application to the transfer coordinator at
    the community college
