The nursing major offered by the University of Maryland Baltimore (UMB) School of Nursing is an upper division professional program, designed to build successfully on a foundation of pre-professional courses that provide a liberal education and support the study of nursing.
Three program options are available within the baccalaureate nursing track to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
- The traditional track offers upper division study in nursing which can be completed in two years of full-time study.
- The registered nurse track includes the RN to BSN, which can be completed in one year of upper division full-time study (part-time and online options are available for RN to BSN students).
- A RN to MS option is also available for qualified students who desire a fast track master's option (online options are available).
Before matriculating into the upper division program, students must successfully complete required course work in the social and behavioral sciences, the natural and physical sciences and the arts and humanities. These lower division pre-professional courses may be completed at any accredited college or university. Applicants should also complete a personal goals statement. All applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency. Academic transcript evaluations by a recognized international credit evaluation service are required for all course work completed outside the United States.
Please note: Students are strongly encouraged to attend an information session to ensure a smooth transition and understanding of prerequisite courses for the upper division nursing program. BSN candidates should begin the application process well in advance of their anticipated enrollment in the School of Nursing.
Because this is a competitive program, there are specific admission requirements. Early application is advised.
