The Creative Initiatives in Teacher Education (CITE) program is a cohort-based parternship program between the University of Maryland, College Park and Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS). The program is designed for highly talented, motivated MCPS paraprofessionals and others who are interested in classroom teaching positions in MCPS. Successful completion of the program leads to a Master's Degree in Elementary Education (M.Ed) and eligibility for Maryland state elementary certifcation (grades 1-6). Candidates holding a bachelor's degree in any field can apply.
During the academic year, CITE students work and are paid as paraprofessionals in MCPS elementary schools and attend classes in the afternoon and evenings at the Universities at Shady Grove campus. No outside employment is possible. It takes two years (four semester and a summer) to complete the program, which consists of 30 graduate and 7 internship credits.
